The UCS is a powerful tool in AutoCAD that allows you to control the drawing plane. It is very important to learn how to use this tool. It can be used for good and evil (for example, in a civil drawing, it is important to keep the UCS in the World Coordinate System otherwise the drawing may not line up with XREFs correctly). Yes, it's that time again. New products shipping and lots of scrambling (I like bacon with my eggs). Anyway, yes, always upgrade the license manager when implementing new Autodesk Networked products. The current version is 11.7.0.0 for the 2011 programs.

Have you ever had a hatch pattern display incorrectly? If you are using a hatch pattern like gravel or concrete the sides of the intended shapes within the hatch may not line up properly. Giving you results that don't look at all like your desired hatching. This typically happens when the area that you are hatching is very far from the origin (0,0) of your coordinate system. In civil drawings moving the objects or changing the location of the origin is typically not an option because it would destroy the coordinate system of your drawing.
